Essential Tips to Maintain Your Used UTV
Buying a used utility terrain vehicle or UTV helps you save plenty of money while enjoying the thrill of off-roading. However, pre-owned equipment requires proper maintenance to continue performing smoothly, and your UTV isn’t an exception. If you are new to UTVs and don't know how to maintain them, here’s what you can do.
Follow our UTV maintenance guide to understand how you can maintain these beasts of a machine safely and efficiently, and for more information, contact Gina’s Motorsports of Monee!
Keep the UTV Clean
Cleaning your UTV after each ride is essential to prevent dirt, mud, and debris from building up and clogging critical systems or causing rust and corrosion. Use a pressure washer to remove the grime and a soft brush and soap to clean any stubborn stains. After washing, dry the UTV with a clean microfiber towel to remove any watermarks or soap residue from the surface.
Change the Oil and Oil Filter
Changing the oil and oil filter can help keep your UTV engine functioning smoothly. Manufacturers often recommend you change the oil every 25 hours of operation or at least once every season. You can use synthetic oil as it provides superior lubrication and better protection against engine wear and tear. You should also replace the oil filter when changing oil so it can continue to trap harmful particles and debris present in the oil.
Check and Clean the Air Filter
The air filter in your UTV prevents dust and debris from entering the engine. A clogged air filter can cause the engine to struggle, reduce fuel efficiency, and increase wear and tear. We recommend our customers check and clean the air filter every 25 hours of operation or once every season and replace a damaged or worn-out item.
Maintain Adequate Tire Pressure
Checking and maintaining adequate tire pressure can help extend the lifespan of your used UTV tires and boost your vehicle’s traction, stability, and fuel efficiency.
You should keep the tire pressure within the manufacturer's recommended range and adjust it as needed. When examining your tires, pay attention to unusual wear and tear and replace a bad tire before leaving home.
We hope these strategies help maintain your used UTV like a pro. If you need more maintenance advice or are still searching for an affordable utility vehicle, visit Gina’s Motorsports of Monee. We are in Monee, IL, and proud to serve those from Chicago and Kankakee County!
