Health Benefits of Riding a Motorcycle

Oct. 30 2019 Miscellaneous By ___

Many people choose to ride a motorcycle because of the surge of adrenaline they get with every twist of the throttle as they take hairpin turns and cruise down highway straights. The thrills you feel when you get on your bike aren’t obtainable anywhere else.

But did you also know that riding your motorcycle has some health benefits? As your local motorcycle dealer, Gina's Motorsports of Monee is happy to share some of the ways that riding your bike can benefit your health and make you stronger and more focused. It’s not like you needed more reasons to buy a motorcycle, but these are some very good ones!

Getting Your Workout In

When you’re riding a car, you’re essentially strapped into a big, plush chair and sitting in one position, staring forward and barely moving your arms. It’s not a very active thing to do, especially not when compared to riding a motorcycle. When you straddle your bike and twist the throttle, you’re instantly engaging a variety of different muscles in order to maintain your balance. You’ll need to use your leg muscles to steer the bike and keep yourself on it, and you’ll engage your core, neck, shoulders and back in order to keep your posture correct. You build up a great deal of stamina in this way and it’s much more fun than hopping on a stationary bike at the gym!

Boosting Your Brain

Not only is motorcycle riding more energetic than driving a car, but it also requires you to focus much harder than you would in a vehicle. Because you’re protected by the seatbelt and metal enclosure, you feel safe and secure, and any minor collision or impact isn’t going to hurt you. So you may lose focus and get distracted easily.

This is not so with a bike! You can’t lose your focus for a second while you’re on your motorcycle or you’ll careen into a ditch or into the back of a truck. You have to constantly scan the traffic around you and the road ahead to make sure the way is clear, you need to be able to react quickly to any sudden obstacles or any drivers making careless mistakes. You have to maintain your balance, which requires more of your attention. All in all, it’s a real brain workout to hop on your bike, and that’s not even factoring in navigation!

Lifting Your Mood

Have you ever sat in traffic in your car, simply fuming about the stalled vehicles ahead and feeling trapped? You won’t feel that way on a motorcycle, because you’ll be able to weave around traffic pretty easily or take the road less traveled so you won’t get stuck in the first place. Plus, you get all the benefits of fresh air and the wind on your face, which can really boost your mood, along with the endorphins you get from engaging your muscles. Stress is a very common cause of health issues in this busy day and age, and taking a scenic ride on your bike can instantly melt that stress away and make you feel refreshed and ready to tackle the week ahead. You also get that good vitamin D from exposure to sunshine—just make sure you’re wearing sunscreen to avoid burns!

So as you can see, riding a motorcycle provides you with a number of health benefits you just won’t get from driving your car. Isn’t it time you checked out some bikes for yourself?
