While driving a motorcycle at night is a relatively common occurrence, it often comes with a number of unique hazards that many motorcycle owners aren’t aware of. To ensure you’re staying safe on the road, especially after nightfall, we strongly encourage you to read through our helpful tips below.

Helpful Upgrades

Driving at night is often more dangerous for motorcycle riders, than motorists who chose to travel in cars. While there are a number of reasons for this, it often comes down to the decreased visibility of a motorcycle. These vehicles are much smaller, and often faster, than cars, making them much more difficult to see on dimly lit streets and roadways.

Thankfully, there are a number of helpful accessories available to help increase your visibility on the road, and decrease the likelihood of an accident. Reflective tape, which can be applied to your vehicle or clothing, is a great way to ensure you’re easy to spot even on the darkest of nights. A helpful light flasher may also be necessary to help alert other vehicles that you are nearby. However, if your headlights aren’t very bright, this may not be as helpful as you expect. In this case, you’ll also want to purchase a set of LED bulbs to replace your old ones.

Road Hazards

Before you take a midnight drive, you’ll need to be aware of the number of hazards that may appear when riding your motorcycle at night. For example, because of the decreased visibility, you’re much more likely to hit obstacles such as potholes, debris, or even animals while out on the road. Hitting these objects at a high speed will likely cause damage to your vehicle, or even result in a crash. To avoid this, be sure to follow the speed limit closely and keep a close eye on your surroundings.
