Motorcycle Pre-Ride Checklist
Motorcycles are thrilling and stylish ways to get around, but they can be dangerous. The best way to prevent problems on your ride is a pre-ride checklist, so we here at Gina’s Motorsports of Monee have put together a brief one for you, below. To learn more, or to see the motorcycles we have for sale, contact our store in Monee, Illinois, today!
Tires
Step one is to check your tires’ air pressure and tread levels. Make sure the psi in the tires is at the manufacturer-recommended level in your owner’s manual, then verify that the treads are still deep enough to ride on safely. If the psi isn’t correct, adjust it to match those recommendations.
Next, check for any cracks, gouges, or other damage. If you find any, or if the tread level is too low, don’t ride your bike.
Brakes
Your brakes are vital to keeping you safe, so make sure they’re ready to stop you when you need them to. Inspect the discs for grooves or divots, and make sure the brake handles move easily without much resistance. When you start riding, start slow and brake at different speeds to check for grinding, vibrations, or squealing.
Controls and Readouts
Finally, make sure all the controls move when you need them too, including the throttle, clutch, and any dials or switches. When you first turn the bike on, check the readouts to make sure there are no warning lights and that the gas and heat readings are in a good place.
