Congratulations on purchasing your motorcycle! Before you head out onto the open road you’ll want to read our article about important motorcycle safety gear. Whether you’re a first-time owner or a motorcycle pro, it’s important that you’ve got the right equipment in case of an accident. If you’re still in the market for a motorcycle we encourage you to stop by Gina's Motorsports of Monee in Monee, Illinois! We’ve got amazing inventory for great prices and our helpful staff will be able to answer any of your questions.

Helmet

The most important piece of safety gear you’ll need to purchase is a helmet. However, there is a lot of variation among this equipment and it can be difficult figuring out what’s best for you. While the size and material of your helmet can be left to your personal preferences, we do recommend finding a model approved by the Department of Transportation (DOT). We also encourage you to try on your helmet before purchasing it to be sure that it’s a good fit. While there’s nothing worse than no helmet, an ill-fitted one is pretty close.

Boots

You may notice that you rarely see a motorcyclist wearing tennis shoes or sandals of any kind. This is because it’s incredibly important that riders’ shoes are durable to protect their feet as they stop, start and ride their bikes. The best shoe for driving a motorcycle is a comfortable boot with great durability. While you don’t have to buy a pair of shoes specific to motorcycle riding, it is recommended. Motorcycle boots often come with safety features such as inner laces and non-slip soles that improve rider safety.

Jackets and Pants

Motorcycle jackets and pants provide not only an important aspect of safety, but comfort as well! If you plan on taking long trips on your motorcycle it’s imperative that you have a jacket and pants that will help fight off the cold wind and chaffing that will come with long-distance riding. If you’re new to the motorcycle scene you may not even realize that other riders are wearing protective clothing. These protective items are well known for being extremely stylish and functional. Some clothing manufacturers even include removable padding or layers for the added comfort of their customers.

We hope this guide has been helpful in explaining the various safety gear needed to drive a motorcycle. We here at Gina's Motorsports of Monee care about our client's safety and always want to encourage safe driving. We proudly serve both Chicago and Kankakee County, Illinois, and hope that you’ll come to us for all of your motorcycle needs!
