Tips and Tricks for Beginner ATV Riders
It’s not always easy learning to ride an ATV. If you don’t have someone there with you to teach you the basics, it can take quite a long time to get the hang of things. Thankfully, we’ve written up a number of helpful tips to ensure you know everything you need to become a successful ATV rider! To learn the basics of riding an ATV, what to watch out for, and how to avoid a rollover, be sure to check our beginner’s guide to ATV riding below.
Be Wary of Inclines
Inclines are tough to master on an ATV. Some hills will simply be too steep to climb, resulting in your vehicle rolling over backward or onto its side. As a beginner, you’re missing the experience needed to tell which hills are ok, and which are beyond your engine’s power level. As such, we suggest avoiding any kind of steep inclines or extremely hilly areas till you’ve got a bit more practice under your belt. Until then, be sure to practice on smaller bumps and dips so you can get the hang of correctly shifting and standing on your ATV as you ride.
Remember to Practice
Before you make plans to tackle any tough terrain with your new ATV, we encourage you to first practice your riding basics in a flat region, preferably covered in packed dirt. As a beginner, you’ll need to get the hang of stopping, accelerating, turning, and shifting before you can try riding in an area with any hills, mud, or sand. As you practice, remember to be careful with your speed, as these vehicles are very easy to flip if turned too quickly or too sharply. Remember to try and always take very wide turns, and lean into your movements to help keep all four of your ATV’s wheels firmly on the ground.
