We here at Gina’s Motorsports of Monee offer a wide variety of new and used ATVs. We do our best to offer the highest quality inventory available, as well as the best customer service around! While buying a new or used ATV is a pretty similar process, there are a few key differences you should be prepared for. Once you’ve read our handy guide and are ready to browse, come see us at our dealership in Monee, Illinois! We’ll make sure you walk off the lot with the perfect model for your needs.
Budget Your Income
With any big purchase, you have to make sure your finances are in order. While a used ATV is often significantly cheaper, buying one can still be a big investment. Budgeting your income will let you know how long it will take you to save up for your used ATV, or if you need to finance one. It will also keep you from spending beyond your means on an ATV model far above your budget.
Where to Buy Your ATV
We understand that there are a number of individual sellers out there with used ATVs, but we encourage you to stick to a reputable dealership. Not only do dealerships often have a wider variety of used ATVs, they also often put their used inventory through several inspections to ensure its quality. Another benefit of buying an ATV used is that you can also look at various reviews online! This will clue you in on great, or not so great, features a specific model might include.
Inspecting a Used ATV
Once you’ve chosen your preferred model and secured its availability at your local dealership, it’s time to prepare for an inspection. There are several more in-depth checklists online, but we’ll keep it to the basics:
- Check for broken plastic or a cracked frame on the ATV’s body
- Ensure that the seat and handles are in good condition
- Check for wear or cracks on the ATV’s tires
- Check that equipment like brakes, lights, and clutches are all functional
- Inspect the ATV’s shocks and engine for leaks
- Check that ball and bearing joints are secure
Once your ATV has passed this inspection list we encourage you to ask your seller for the ATV’s history. While the odometer is a good indicator of how far or often an ATV has been ridden, it won’t tell you important information like accident history.
We hope that this guide has been helpful to you in preparing to purchase a used ATV. If you’re ready to begin browsing for your ATV we encourage you to look here at our used inventory!
