Looking to travel out of town with your UTV? While towing is a viable option for short trips outside city limits, any further and you risk seriously damaging your vehicle. Thankfully, learning to haul a UTV is a pretty easy process! Just take a look at our helpful guide below and you and your UTV will be on your way in no time.

Necessary Equipment

In order to haul your UTV, you’ll need a few important tools on hand to get the job done. If you don’t own a trailer, you’ll need to purchase, borrow, or rent one as—unlike other smaller powersports vehicles—UTVs are too large to fit into the back of a truck. If you own a trailer without a ramp installed, you’ll need to get your hands on a portable model to be able to load up your model. A set of wheel chocks and a few tie-down straps and hooks will also be necessary to safely secure your UTV in your trailer’s bed.

Securing Your UTV

Before you can tie down your UTV and hit the road, you’ll first need to load up your vehicle. To begin, place down your ramp and drive your UTV until it is just a few feet away from the edge of the ramp. Make sure your wheels are straight before driving forward over the ramp and into your trailer’s bed, making sure not to over-accelerate. Once your UTV is in place, turn off the ignition and place your wheel chocks behind the model’s tires. Once this is done, you’ll want to grab your straps and wrap them around your UTV’s axles before attaching the hooks to your trailer’s various tie-down anchors. Afterward, be sure to tighten the straps until they are just taut, or your UTV could be damaged by the cord.
