Towing your ATV just outside of town to hit some nearby nature trails or raving tracks is a pretty common occurrence. However, if you travel too far outside of town, you’ll likely end up damaging your ATV's sensitive equipment or ruining the tires. If you’re making plans to travel with your ATV far beyond city limits, you’ll want to read our helpful guide explaining how to haul your vehicle.

Check Your Tow Vehicle

If you don't have a tow vehicle with a very high weight capacity, you’ll need to be careful. Overload your truck with too much weight and it’s very likely to break down and leave you stranded. To avoid this, be sure to check the weight of your ATV beforehand by flipping through the owner’s manual. If you’re not sure what your vehicle’s towing capabilities are, you can also check this in your owner’s manual. Just remember that this number includes the weight of your ATV, all of your luggage, and your passengers.

Grab the Right Tools

While you’ll need a number of important tools to safely haul your ATV, the most important of these is obviously your trailer. If you don’t already own a trailer you’re welcome to rent one instead, just remember to choose a model with ramps to make loading your ATV a breeze. Before you hit the open road, you’ll also need to purchase a set of wheel chocks and tie-downs to secure your ATV in place as you drive. We also advise grabbing a tow chain and even some pin locks to help ensure your trailer doesn’t detach at any point during your drive.
